This series was an emotional rollercoaster. I have been reading for a week because I just kept wanting "one more chapter." Now it's 3 a.m., my eyes feel gritty but I just need to add my voice to the other positive reviews. I don't do synopses of books, I leave that to other people, but I focus more on how the book made me feel. And this series left me drained.

First, let me say that Ms. Aubrey is an outstanding author. She knows how to dig into her characters and then "paint" their thoughts and emotions in such a way that the reader feels like they are just sitting and talking together. IMHO, this is the mark of a good author. You forget you're reading a book! Excellent work! Secondly, the books were very well edited. That's a biggie for me.

It was exasperating to keep up with the lack of communication between Adam and Mia. I found myself just wanting to tell them to just sit down and talk, damn it! And perhaps that's why I kept saying "just one more chapter."

Definitely a five star recommendation.

At Any Moment Gaming The System Volume 3 Brenna Aubrey 9781940951089 Books Reviews

I started this series slightly skeptical, yet mildly intrigued (book one was free and the description caught my attention). And then I got hooked. I was a little nervous for what was in store for Mia and Adam, but I think Brenna beautifully handle some tough subject matter while not making the storyline overly sappy. The characters learn a lot about themselves, but in a way that acknowledges that real life is messy and complicated and rarely does everything go to plan. I appreciate that because no matter how fun a 'and they all loved happily ever area's ending might be, it doesn't acknowledge that real life doesn't exactly work like that.
I absolutely love this series. The storyline has gotten better with each book and I have become more attached to the characters with each book. The plot summary blurb is a little misleading since Mia doesn't really undergo any experimental treatments in the book (so not a lab rat) and no discussion of her writing a will takes place in the book. But faced with her own mortality I am sure she thought about a will, it just wasn't mentioned that I recall.

I really liked that this book was written from dual points of view. I think being in both Mia and Adam's heads really enhanced the story. This book had me in tears as Mia had to make a life saving decision that would forever alter her life. The agony, grief and guilt that she felt was very realistically portrayed. The struggle Adam had while being her support person was also very believable.

In book one Mia and Adam find love thru an intense physical relationship. In book two they discover that their lack of actually KNOWING each other creates many stumbling blocks in their relationship as life crashes around them. In this book, as life falls like a string of dominoes threatening to make their love the biggest casualty, each of them must do some soul searching to determine if they can go on as a couple.

This is a series that I know I will revisit in time and will anxiously await to read more of these characters.
As I finish Adam and Mia’s story with ‘At Any Moment’ I want to start by saying if you read your erotica for the sex alone, this may not be the series for you. Yes, book one does have a lot of good sex….but that is not what this series is about. However, give it a chance….as I guarantee you, these characters and the story line are worth it. But be prepared, it is a HIGHLY EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER RIDE!!!

One of the highlights of this series for me was the fact that the first book was told from Mia’s point of view, the 2nd Adam’s and the 3rd both. This worked on so many levels to connect you to the story as well as the characters.

As ‘At Any Moment’ starts Mia and Adam are working hard at being “there” and better for “the other” but you can see them falling into the same patterns. Internalizing their own true feelings and not being open with one another about their thoughts and needs. This is no more poignant than when one evening Mia is taking a ‘bath’ and Adam is outside the door listening. It is gut wrenching as you can FEEL how much they need to be open to one another.

Their own worst enemy to their relationship is themselves! Their own minds and internalizations. Not expressing themselves, good or bad. You begin to wonder if they are ever going to TRULY learn to communicate or if this will be the ultimate demise of their relationship.

The want, the need, the desire for one another (and the roadblocks caused by their controlling natures and their hang-ups of their own guilt) are almost palpable. “We were both burying ourselves under mounds of grief and guilt and pretending we could make it go away without having to deal with it. We were both good at doing that.”

When they finally do discover a form in which they can communicate to the other you are at once impressed, because the ways they choose to open up are so much like them, but in the same regard you are worried that they may not be able to communicate with words in person, when it counts the most.

But ultimately Mia finally starts making her OWN decisions for what she wants in her life and you are ecstatic for her sudden burst of maturity. “His overprotectiveness combined with my stubborn independence had made a near-lethal combination for our relationship”. She finally comes to understand what love is…….sacrifice and forgiveness on both partners behalf, for one another and themselves. “Separate, we were special, unique people; together, we formed something rare and precious and greater than our separate selves”.

After all, “none of us know when forever will end. It’s not just you. We never know. What makes forever worth it is each day we live and enjoy being with each other. Each day we make each other’s lives better.”

In the end I was left wanting MORE of Adam and Mia’s story (I would give away much if I told you what I want to see) and yet excited for the newly developing character in this series.
