In Search of the Fun-Forever Job Career Strategies that Work eBook Ellis Chase Reviews

This book was so interesting that it was hard to put down. It gives great information for job networking and how to search.
I purchased this book because I wanted to learn more about salary negotiation and how to prepare for an upcoming interview and it definitely helped. It also helped me feel better to read that it's actually a majority of people that struggle to find their "fun-forever" job - it's not just me. Highly recommend.
It's a rare combination, but Ellis accomplishes the challenge to pen a comprehensive treatment of the job search that is actually fun to read. The reader's challenge is making the time to put the practical tips into action, but the investment is sure to yield a considerable return on the effort.
This is a simple, clear, cliche-free guide to getting a job for experienced candidates. Forget the generic stuff out there and read this - takes less than a day and all you need
Several years ago, I was in the middle of an extended job search. I was not getting interviews - let alone call backs - because the only thing I knew about job search was how to answer ads. A friend suggested that I join a job search group which Ellis Chase moderated. Ellis taught me the job search techniques which helped me land a job that I have loved and at a higher salary than what I had earned previously.

Ellis has put those techniques - and some new ones - into this wonderful book. Reading this book reminded me of being back in his job search group Ellis thoughts are lively, clear, and carefully thought through. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about starting a job search or is in the middle of one.
I met an elderly man recently who related to me that his grand daughter asked him what
he did for a living. He response to her was that he lived to avoid work. He was
opening the gate to a multi complex property that he owned so we could have a meeting
in an office that he had not used in months. He was still working but it didn't feel like work
to him.

What I got from this book
The fun forever job is realized when you find out what is fun for you.
You may be employed in a job where you love a certain aspect of it and hate another
and that is fine. It takes time as we navigate adulthood to discover what we really love
to do not just what we can do. Embrace change, try different jobs, find out what you love
about each and find a way to incorporate all the things you love, and you will get that
fun forever job.

This book does a good job delving into this topic giving the authors life experience,
discussion various scenarios and giving advice.
I originally chose this book because it looked like it was going to be a humorous take on job hunting. When I read it, I discovered it was absolutely full of high quality job hunting information the relationship of networking to job hunting. The fact that it was a special deal (free) also encourage me to order it.
I would recommend that the author renames this book so that the potential readers will know that it contains serious information rather than a flippant view of job hunting.
I gave it five stars because the information contained in the book was absolutely on target for today's job hunters rather than a rehash of the thousands of other job hunting books.
I was a student at Columbia Business School and worked a bit with Ellis to better understand the job search process. I really liked Ellis's thoughts on job searching and his personality, so I picked up a copy of his book, and in short I loved it.

Unlike other job hunting books, this one really spoke to me. While job hunting is not rocket science, it's not easy to do and it can feeling overwhelming in the midst of it. Moreover, there are many books out there that add details that may not matter and can stress you out. Ellis's book is easy to understand and sorts a lot out. He presents the book mostly as a story of his own job searches and his own career progression through the years, with to-do's laid in throughout. I really enjoyed this because it painted a picture of how he evolved his career - it made me feel like my hunting and exploration is not unique and in fact perfectly normal. Beyond his longer-term view, Ellis describes the steps he took (and encourages his clients to take) to land jobs. He focuses on how to meet important contacts, how to drive conversations with them, how to send an introductory email, how to move the conversation forward, how to negotiate, and how to think about a new job. He does so not with vague ideas, but with a few very specific examples from his clients' lives and from his own. Are you nervous to send that first email? Ellis has an example. Not sure how to follow-up or what to say? He gives an example on that too. Also some examples on LinkedIn and social networking. A collection of very specific to-do's, versus a book filled with theory.

Beyond that, I think his personal story is pretty interesting and I'm sure a lot of people could relate. He was both a musician and a student of psychology. He tried to have a corporate gig and a music gig... how to choose between the two? Eventually working at a bank... where to go?

All in all a great read with useful examples and tips. Recommended!
