I got this book because I liked the sound of an average woman transforming her life. Carrie looks after other kids in the afternoons for income. She fantasizes about one day having money to take her own kids on a vacation. She had always wanted to be a psychologist, but met her ex-husband in university and let him convince her to quit her studies. She would walk past the dumpster on the way home from her daughter’s school every day and collect soda cans for extra money. One day she started picking up other things at the dumpster and found that she could sell them online for extra cash. Her life changes and she even goes back to continuing her studies. Overall, a very touching read.
More than just your average novel, this inspirational book is for any single mothers out there struggling financially or feeling hopeless. The book spoke to me on a personal level and made me think about my own life and various possibilities.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised and am looking forward to more books in this series! It is light-hearted yet heartfelt on a deep level. It’s a book I didn’t want to put down as I felt drawn into Carrie’s life and wanted to see what happened next. If you are a woman that has had a hard time with money, unemployment or single parenthood, you will definitely feel for Carrie. Following her journey from her dire start to her success will brighten up your day.
Some good stuff in here and the story is sweet and well-written, but it reminded me a little of a Hallmark movie - fun to watch when you are in the right mood, but not for everyone.
I enjoyed this feel good story about a struggling single mother of two kids who rises above her situation to become an entrepreneur by fixing up and reselling things that other people have thrown away.
If you’re a single mom or dad, struggling and feeling hopeless, this book will be exactly what you need to realize that this too shall pass and you have what it takes to succeed and fulfill your dreams just like Carrie does! This book will stay in my library for a very long time. It’s inspiring and gives sound advice for reaching financial independence. I found Carrie to be so relatable! I too have left the grocery store in tears after blowing my grocery budget. The ideas that Carrie comes up with to make more money to make ends meet and save money to make her dreams of getting her masters degree a reality are absolutely inspiring and prove that the saying “one persons trash is another treasure” true in a literal sense. I am looking forward to reading the rest of The Net Worth Series. I love that they are told in a story form but they also have real solutions that CAN be used in real life to help get ahead. I feel like there’s a lot to learn about savings in an enjoyable reading format!
Carrie is a wonderful mom who tries her best for her kids despite her meagre circumstances. Many single moms will relate to her and find hope in this inspiring story. In spite everything she has been through and her constant daily struggles, she manages to come up with a different way of making ends meet by working for herself so she can still spend time with her kids. The story is very real and relatable. I loved this book.
